we write the good songs baby

I am in Cape Breton Island.
here are some things i have learned:

-They call it "god's country" because of the stunning landscape, not because of the excitement. (there isn't any)

-People here really love t-shirts with slogans on them. Some of my favorites which I saw at value village today were "PICK FLOWERS, NOT FIGHTS" (i actually would've worn this had it not been too small) "I love muscles" (with a picture of a muscle car on it), "Blondes have more fun but brunettes can read", and "I'VE CASHED MY REALITY CHECK".

-every house here looks like the nicest house on the nicest old streets in Halifax.

I am staying at an adorable bed and breakfast for 50 bucks a night. it is so cute and old. they even have some robert allen fabrics on pillows in the living room! hehe

I took these pictures in my room. I am as bored as I look but only half as lonely as i seem.

I promise I am not staying in a shed. It is actually the quaintest room for photo-ops ever.

new layout

much better.

An open letter to BOYS

It has come to my attention that many of my lovely male companions/secret sisters have been troubled in the lady department lately.

As much as I love my friends, I just don't have the right beauties to hook you all up with, otherwise I would be carrying around a bow and be shooting love arrows everywhere.

I have been thinking a lot about this, and I think one way I can help is by giving a female insight as to what us girls (*a generalization, but honest) like/think/expect/appreciate from a good man.

Ladies, feel free to comment and add to the list.

1. Clean your ears.

2.brush your teeth. Floss your teeth.

3.wash your feet. If your shoes stink, wear socks. or throw out the shoes.

4. Chew gum if you smoke, and wash your hands after you have a cigarette. Preferably, don't smoke, because then we worry about your health.

5. Laziness is a turn off.

6. Save your money, but don't be frugal either. You don't have to be a sugar daddy, but you do have to be responsible.

7. Wash your sheets. It's disgusting. We're not making out in that.

8. sincerity is a huge turn on.

9. It is sexy when you take care of yourself and your health. (eat well, exercise. If you exercise you can still eat pizza every day, but it's cute when you have a salad instead occasionally)

10. Farting is fine, it's just not funny.

11. It's very attractive when you take pride in your appearance and your space, but don't let it consume you- we like to feel like the pretty one.

12. I don't care how cliche it is, romance is amazing and we love that shit. Even if you picked the flowers from the neighbors yard. (BUT NOT ON AN ANNIVERSARY)

13. Pick up the tab, but not every time. That's not fair.

14. We like to feel protected, even if you're scrawny.

15. It means a lot to us if your family likes us or not.

16. If we cook, do the dishes. (and don't make us ask.)

17. We like to take care of you when you're sick, and we like it when you do the same.

18. It's really cute when you ask to carry our bags, but we don't expect it.

19. Every girl is a sucker for a handy man.

20. I know it's not fair, but we expect to always be the little spoon. sorry.

Hope this helps. I have a hunch there will be more of these posts coming soon.

Color Inspiration

Some new vintage scarves I picked up... I am especially into the wacky color combo on the last one (2 views).

I am really excited about feeling so inspired lately, but how will I ever decide what to do with my house when I stumble on pretty gems like these on a regular basis?

sorry i'm late!

after the fastest 12 days of my life, angie has finally left us.

(but not our hearts)

(...and technically not even the airport just yet. sigh.)

What a wonderful time. Not once did I ever feel burdened or even the slightest bit annoyed by her presence. That is a big deal! I mean, come on: 12 days (on and off) of sharing my tiny 1 bedroom doll house with angie and her suitcase. Plus she likes cooking, and not once did my kitchen stay messy.
what a gem.
Hey listen; if anyone is ever in the market for a roommate, might I suggest her?? She will cook and clean and love and laugh and watch degrassi with you.

Another highlight of the last few weeks (long time no nerd. sorry folks) was the triumphant return of my best friend Lindsay Stewart. She has come home safely with:

-shorter hair. (now I can truly mean it when I sing "Runnin' yo' hands through ma fro" to her, a classic craft money interpretation of R. Kelly's "Ignition (remix)".

-a lot of good recipes, and more courage in the kitchen
(so far she has made delicious curried vegetable stew, cabbage rolls, and tomato vegetable soup for us all)

-A new appreciation for her tickle-trunk-esque amazing closet, and all of the surprises it brings.

-motivation

-A car. (and soon to be a bike...)

- A LAMINATOR!! post cards just went to another level. If any of you are avid crafters, put this on your Christmas list. IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE*.

(**crafternoons)

Here is another especially intriguing tidbit you oakviller lurkers might appreciate: NICKIE came to visit! YES: NICKIE.. It was soooo fun! We (Nickie, Angie, Alex and I) went on the most exciting North End art crawl together on Saturday and it was so inspiring. We did a lot of really "Halifax" things this weekend and I think the 3 of us walked away really inspired. I am actually going to get a membership to inkstorm printing studio and start silk screening. I have some reallllllly wicked ideas for some prints I want to do and maybe a mini series of pillows. If it looks good some of you can expect wicked Christmas gifts. be stoked.

I have really been taking advantage of the color copier so handy in my kitchen and I can't believe how much crafting I have been accomplishing.

oh, i cracked my windshield, but I am proud of myself because I didn't freak out about it or anything. I normally would've lost it because I feel like maintaining my car is so beyond my abilities and my knowledge but I was just like "ok. i actually have money. I can take care of this. whatever." Turns out it is covered by insurance without affecting how much I pay monthly and I just have to pay the deductible. THEN i shopped around and found a place that pays half of my deductible. my dad is going to be so proud of me.

anyways this is all over the place but it reflects my life as of lately.

oh! one last thing:

pony is finally going to the vet on friday. getting his shots so I can get him fixed. See ya, nuts.

i'm closing in on finishing my apartment more and more each day.
