Summer time girls got it goin' on....

Oh buddy, it's summer!!

Here is some exciting news: With some help from Adam and Amir, Becky and I started a vegetable garden!!!!

I have a nice big backyard with direct sunlight, so the chance to REALLY get a veggie garden going has arrived! I am really excited about the opportunity to get this going, and with a little bit of hard work, eat fresh local veggies from my own backyard! It will save me some dollars, but the best part is the enjoying fresh flavors that I grew myself. I share the yard my my attached neighbors, so they will be helping a bit here and there. Ria ( my female neighbor) is really into gardening too so I give her the yard for flower beds and such, she gives me my veggie garden, and together we share the space for relaxing. Its a fair trade.

Also, sometimes the problem with veggie gardens is that they can actually have more food than a person can use, but with 3 of us sharing the veggies nothing will go to waste!

Here is what we are growing:

organic zucchini

cucumber. I wanted "english" cucumber, but at Halifax seed the closest equivalent was referred to as a hybrid variety, and it made me sad. Only the tried and true for my garden!

lots of herbs: greek oregano, sweet basil, cilantro, rosemary, chives, thyme, and dill.

yummy juicy tomatoes

OHHH BUDDY. Beets! nom nom nom

organic carrots. super sweet. mmmmm.

pea sweet peas in the pod. a snackers heaven, right in my backyard.

yellow and green string beans

cooking onions

MY LIFE LATELY, VIA REFERENCE IMAGES:

SO MUCH FRISBEE. IAN AND THE GIRLS VS. EVERYONE ELSE ALWAYS WINS.

(always)

MY NEW RIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
pretty stoked. single speed. I took off the chain guard, and I am going to get a basket so I can transport this:

from point a to point b.

Also, Becky and I started making a recipe zine! We have sooo many ideas. The first one is just our tried and true fav recipes, number 2 will be all about the barbeque, and the third will be all foods made with veggies from our garden! (angie, I can't wait to try your beet tart out and put it in that issue hehe). Also, my kitchen is now officially known as "the test kitchen". Testing yummy recipes and exploring new tips! how fun!!

In other big news: ALEXIS AND ZANE COME HOME TODAY!!!!!!!!! UIHRSFOINKNFJOLNVKNVOSNVON

I need to start "cappin' more moms" (capturing more moments). How could the motown dance party, shed party, now-and-then bike adventures, and gardening excursion go uncaptured!?!? SHAME ON ME.

p.s.

happy bike week!

CRIBS FEATURING ROBINA CRAFT MONEY

On this episode of cribs, ROBINA CRAFT MONEY takes you on an exclusive tour of her doll house.

(i finally am satisfied enough with this stage of my work-in-progress doll house to share it with you all!)

So this is my living room/office/mud room. It's an all-in-one package but I make it work. Note the candle on the table: the (former) mice chewed on it when I went away to Newfoundland. I was pissed.

This is my ugly futon that I can't stand but make work since it's so practical. It came with the joint. (i bought some furniture/dishes/pots from the former tenant since she was moving across the country and i had moved from across the country. She couldn't take it, I had nothing to bring...it was a good deal from 200 bucks.) I've been desperately seeking a new sofa but I just don't know what I want. Everything I have tried is a good price but not comfy enough, or not the right color/material/size. I just don't know what it is that I want, But i'll know it when i see it. above the sofa is a cluster of art/photos/prints I have been lucky enough to acquire either by friends (i love you angie/colly/lynn/izzy/lindsay) or by a little something known as salvation army. I wanna make it grow up into the corner of my room I think. ALSO, I should add that I will be painting this room a nice sandy color hopefully this month. trim stays white. WOOT!

This table was made for me by my dad and is one of my prized possessions, and a conversation piece (mentioned by almost everyone that enters my house). it was made from a tree which fell in my uncles yard. he passed away 5 years ago and had this piece of wood in his workshop which my dad took and turned into this woodsman table. Its perfect in front of the big windows i have, and I intend on buying lots of plants to sit on it, but again, I don't know what I want.

My office!!! My favorite new things! I got this desk (actually a 1950's lacquered kitchen pastry table) from a client, as well as the chair on the side which is made from bamboo. The chair actually has another half which you can put together with it and make a loveseat, or place separately as 2 one-armed chairs. SO COMFY. I LOVE how cozy it gets by the paper lamp's light. It honestly is like this in person, not just a lucky pic. The inspiration board makes me smile every day.

This is what it looks like with a flash (haha)...You can see the colors of everything much better this way. the paper latern kind of looks like a globe in the other pic, but it's actually asian butterflies and pretty pretty.

THESE ARE MY CUTE THINGS. I love the lamp, I just can't find the perfect drum shade for it yet! Where the hell do you buy a drum shade?!!? why is it so hard to find??? Also, still stumped on what color it should be too. The thimbles were given to me by rhiannon's dad and really mean so much to me. The front tin is full of vintage silk threads!

This is my room. I just put up the haliwood thing (which i made) yesterday, but it doesn't match anything so I think I am going to take it down. I do really love the scale of it though, so I need to find something else to put there. The linens are all vintage, minus the duvet cover which is cozy and jersey and was 20 BUCKS at jysk. that store rules. have a sleepover in this bed. The comfort is legendary.

this is my absolute favorite thing. It is the corner of my bedroom and is the other half of my love seat. The curtain is a beacon hill fabric panel which I got for FREE from my job at the showroom because the pattern is discontinued. I love how warm it feels and how organic the linen looks. (linen is my favorite fibre content...NERD ALERT!). This window is perfect for smoking out of which sitting in your underwear, reading while having some tea, or for amir to sit in while I try on outfits and make him tell me if i look cute or not.

This is my bathroom. Nothing too fancy, but I feel lucky that i have a well maintained bathroom and a tub I can actually take bathes in. As much as i am sick of "spa colors", i do like how cool (as in relaxed, not hip) my bathroom feels. Inappropriate framed print a cassie connors original.

MY KITCHEN!! look at my big windows and my red countertops! look at my pyrex and my fancy dish rack! I am ordering new hardware and painting the walls a very pale robin's egg blue. i love this kitchen, it's perfect size for a young home-maker who lives alone.

another view of the kitchen. I have new tiles in my kitchen/bath which is nice.

it's awesome having a dad who is a carpenter. He refinished this antique drop-leaf table (it was my grandpas) to match my kitchen. I love that I can pull it out for eating in my kitchen/make crafts/whatever, or leave it down when I need more space

This is the view out of my kitchen window. At night it looks like a light-brite. There are beautiful city lights as far as your eyes can see.

OKAY. CRIBS. THIS IS MY FRIDGE.
it doesn't look like this now, I need groceries.
This was a good week for meals at my house, lemme tell you. key points: amazing tofu sweet curry spread/dip I buy from acadian soy products at the market every week, a case of tonic water for gin and tonics so graciously stolen from the marquee for me by my straight-edge boyfriend. That's where the pineapple juice came from too. The amazing pyrex juice pitcher was a birthday gift from my love rhiannon, now housing low-acid orange juice. I managed to use almost all of that cilantro this week, and if you haven't tried the president's choice fake chicken strips, they are AMAZING.

fuck. now i'm hungry.

also, I DON'T OWN A MICROWAVE, NOR DO I MISS ONE. It forces me to eat fresher and in turn, be healthier and more aware of what i am eating.

this is my backyard which i share with my neighbor! it's quaint and i have a door to a small deck/stairs off of my kitchen leading into my yard. it's handy for putting stuff in the compost. I can't wait to grow vegetables and get a hammock. Me and becky are going to grow peas, beans, beets (!!!), onions, zucchini, potatos, and greens. YUM. oh, and strawberries! Jam-making party!! :)

wait a minute mister postman!

Today felt like a 48 hour day.

and then I came home to this:

To date, since I have moved into the doll house my personal mail has out-numbered my bills.

To me, that's a sure sign I am doing something right with my life.

Things are quaint, and i love that.

Lynn Kane, I love you forever and always. I can't wait to write back.
